Call the Shots. Shut DESO

The Shut DESO campaign has been a long and varied one that has been a core CAAT issue since 1976 when CAAT started. Now, thanks to the support and hard work of many, DESO is to close.

  • the Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and the Green Party as with more than 30 organizations including CND, the Fellowship of Reconciliation, SPEAK and Quaker Peace & Social Witness along with many individuals have already signed a statement calling for DESO's closure
  • More than 400 MPs received a postcard from their constituents calling for the closure of DESO and around 80 were lobbied in person.
  • Articles highlighting DESO's activities have been published in the Guardian, the Observer and in the Holborn and Bloomsbury Messenger.
  • More than 250 people took part in CAAT's Action Day on 16th October 2006 to designate DESO's headquarters as a 'global danger zone'.
  • Over 10,000 petition signatures calling for the closure of DESO were handed to the Chief Secretary of the Treasury on March 7th 2007.
