Job Description
The Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) is a UK-wide non-charitable campaigning organisation, funded by the donations of individuals, groups and trusts. CAAT is seeking to appoint a Fundraising Co-ordinator to maximise income and maintain the organisation's long-term financial stability.
The post-holder will:- Maximise funding for CAAT's work through all appropriate means, including trust fundraising and direct marketing appeals
- Work with colleagues and CAAT’s Treasurer on the organisational budget and be responsible for producing annual income forecasts, providing income reports and analysis to staff and Steering Committee as and when appropriate
- In line with CAAT’s long-term plan, develop and implement CAAT's fundraising and supporter development strategies to meet or exceed budget targets
- Develop CAAT’s supporter database as a fundraising tool
- New and existing supporters' cash donations and regular gifts
- Community fundraising and occasional centrally organised events

- Developing and maintaining supporter relationships to ensure increased and repeat donations as well as wider supporter involvement
- Maximising income from newly implemented regular giving mechanisms
- Initiating, developing and maintaining good networks of contacts to support and facilitate fundraising work
- Working with colleagues to ensure that fundraising and campaigning messages are fully integrated at a local and national campaigning level
- Working with colleagues to maximise income through CAAT’s online presence
- Producing and administering regular supporter appeals
- Producing effective and appropriate materials to support fundraising and development work (including recruitment leaflets, supporter packs etc)
- Managing and developing merchandise schemes such as CAAT’s greetings card programme
- Maintaining appropriate files and records to support fundraising work, including performance of appeals and ongoing records of donor relationships
- Administering regular and one-off donations and acknowledgments
- Being the first point of contact for donor enquiries and corresponding with supporters as appropriate
- Charitable and non-charitable grant-making trusts and foundations
- Corporate support when agreed with CAAT's Steering Committee and ethically screened
- Researching and identifying grant-making bodies and other sources of funding
- Preparing funding applications
- Building and developing grant-maker relationships, including reporting on projects, updating trust staff and attending meetings with trust representatives as necessary
- Maintaining a good relationship with CAAT’s charitable trust TREAT, and ensuring the Trustees remain updated and are responsive to CAAT’s funding priorities
- With other staff, the postholder will:
- Share responsibility for campaign planning and organisational strategy
- Be responsible for supervising volunteers undertaking relevant areas of work
- Share the day-to-day running and administration of the CAAT office, which works as a collective
- Be a member of the CAAT Steering Committee, which has ultimate responsibility for the organisation
- Cover for other staff members during holidays and other absences
Person Specification
EXPERIENCEEssential:
- Has experience of relevant fundraising work and a proven record of success in fundraising
- Has experience of developing and implementing fundraising strategies
- Has experience of researching and identifying potential new sources of funding
- Has experience of coordinating direct mail appeals
- Has experience of managing relationships with external suppliers
- Has experience of working as a sole fundraiser or fundraising for a small organisation
Essential:
- Has knowledge of fundraising from a supporter base, including the recruitment of supporters
- Has knowledge of fundraising from grant-making bodies
- Has an understanding of campaigning organisations and an appreciation of the attendant fundraising issues that arise
- Is IT literate with solid experience of using databases as a fundraising tool (CAAT uses Microsoft Access)
- Has strong numeracy skills and experience of producing annual income budgets
- Has the skills to work with, motivate and supervise volunteers both in an office setting and as fundraisers at a local level
- Has an understanding of organisational finances
- Is up to date with the latest fundraising trends and developments
