Press Release

FAO Newsdesks - 14th March 2001

The Quadripartite committee today released it's third report into the Annual Report on Strategic Export Control for 1999 and parliamentary prior scrutiny.

Robin Oakley of CAAT said "The principle of prior scrutiny must be adopted by the government if there is to be any real substance to its claims for greater accountability . CAAT is calling for a direct public role in decisions about controversial license decisions prior to their being finalised."

He continued "The current scandal involving arms to Morocco highlights the need for prior scrutiny as a counterbalance to the company's ability to apply pressure to ministers to influence their decisions".
