Call the Shots. Take the Arms Companies out of government

Arms companies wield immense influence and political power within government. They enjoy privileged access to decision-makers that the general public can only dream of. The ‘revolving door’ between arms companies and government, the countless military-related government ‘advisory bodies’, and the very existence of a government organisation (DESO) that is dedicated to selling arms exports and is run by an arms industry boss, are three examples of corporate access to the heart of government (read more in our report 'Who calls the shot?'). This complex web of relationships between arms companies and the government undermines democracy. It distorts government policies into arms company wish-lists instead of serving the interests of the wider public.

It's time to stop arms companies calling the shots. Campaign Against Arms Trade has launched the 'Call the Shots' campaign to end the political influence of the arms industry (read more about the launch of the campaign). The campaign consists of two parts:

The Shut DESO Action Day on 16 October 2006, part of our campaign to Shut DESO, was a great day of fun and action. More than 250 people came from all over Britain and from many different groups to encircle DESO's headquarters in Central London.
