Welcome!
"It is an honour for Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, in association with the UAE Armed Forces GHQ, to organise the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX), to be held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces", writes His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company in his welcome note on IDEX's official homepage.
He continues, saying that IDEX 2011 celebrates the 10th edition of this event which has grown since its inception in 1993 to become one of the world's largest exhibition for the global arms industry, actually the largest arms exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Over 900 exhibitors will be there, "showcasing the latest products and technology around 12 indoor exhibition halls, outside static display areas and on the water at ADNEC marina".

The previous IDEX was held in 2009 when 150 delegations attended and UAE Armed Forces announced deals worth AED 18.4 billion (US $5 billion), making IDEX 2009 "one of the most successful defence shows for exhibitors to achieve signed business agreements".
UKTI presence
In 2009, the newsletter of the Defence Manufacturers Association (DMA) (DMA news 53; 55) reported that "the DMA and the APPSS [Association of Police and Public Security Suppliers], along with support from UKTI DSO, coordinated the UK Pavilion at IDEX 2009. UKTI DSO staff supported over 90 UK Defence and Security companies. Richard Paniguian [Head of UKTI DSO] was accompanied by Lieutnant General Figgures, Deputy Chief of Defence Staff (Capability)."
It provided details of the UKTI DSO Export Support Team which "manned an inventive stand with the backdrop of an Emirate fort, which attracted attention from delegates and media". The Team also "provided demonstrations and briefings on a range of British defence and security products including the Supacat all-terrain vehicle and Griffon hovercraft".
